From Researching Virtual Initiatives in Education

Thomas Salmon is an educational researcher.

His interests in educational research focus particularly on issues in Africa, South East Asia, Melanesia and Australia. His areas of expertise are the governance of education systems, quality and language of instruction issues, technology and ICT integration and teacher development.

Recently in 2011 he took on an internship with the NGO Teachers Without Borders working on e-learning based in-service teacher training programmes. He also took an internship at UNESCO Bangkok, working in the Education Policy Reform unit on a wide range of issues, but particularly on the financing of education in the region.

His recent work has focused on mother tongue literacy, decentralisation, aid effectiveness and a rights based approach to education.

He recently completed my thesis focusing on teacher development looking at development assistance for Islamic schools through the AusAID Learning Assistance for Islamic Schools (LAPIS) project in Indonesia.
