The University of KwaZulu-Natal supports online and distance degree educations. For example, it offers a Distance Learning Honours in Accounting Programme in 2009, according to “Accounting Distance Learning”.

Today's university is the result of a merger between the former University of Durban-Westville and the University of Natal.

The has administrative offices at each of its campuses, i.e. in Edgewood, Howard College, the Medical School, Pietermaritzburg and Westville, South Africa.
