Founded in 2000, the Universidade Virtual Pública do Brasil (Public Virtual University of Brazil, UNIREDE) is a consortium of 70 public higher education institutions in Brazil. It aims to improve access to education through the distance learning courses. It receives funding from the Ministry of Education (MEC) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT).
