The Nursing Education Xchange (NEXus) supports enrollment in US distance/online doctoral courses not available on a student's home campus.

NEXus is a partnership among select Western Institute of Nursing institutions in the US. It was launched in 2004 to increase the capacity of programs through sharing and jointly creating academic resources.

Per the NEXus web site, a consortium of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), University of Colorado Denver, University of Northern Colorado, and University of Utah was established to carry through the goals of the NEXus project of increasing capacity via distance-accessible courses. Currently NEXus consists of seven institutions providing distance-accessible courses for students (Academic Collaborators) and two institutions that do not offer courses but have NEXus courses available to their students (Academic Affiliates).

Academic Collaborators:

  • Arizona State University
  • Oregon Health & Science University
  • University of Colorado Denver
  • University of Hawai'i (pending)
  • University of New Mexico
  • University of Nevada Las Vegas
  • University of Northern Colorado
  • University of Utah

Academic Affiliates:

  • Loma Linda University
  • Washington State University

According to WCET, NEXus has only 20 participating students as of October 2009.
