South Dakota is a state in the midwestern region of the United States. It borders North Dakota to the north, Minnesota to the west, Iowa to the south-east, Nebraska to the south, Wyoming to the south-west and Montana to the west.

South Dakota has one of the lowest population densities in the United States, with a total 814,180 as of 2010. The state capital is Pierre, and the largest city Sioux Falls.

South Dakota is known as the Mount Rushmore State.
