Council for Higher Education AccreditationFrom Researching Virtual Initiatives in EducationThe Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) describes itself as a "national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation". Organisationally, CHEA is an association of 3,000 degree-granting colleges and universities. It recognises 60 institutional and programmatic accrediting organisations at the regional and state level in the United States. CHEA is governed by by a 20-person board of college and university presidents, institutional representatives and public members.
