Consortium

A Consortium is a concept taken from the UNESCO "Virtual Universities" classification scheme.

It is an association or combination of businesses, institutions and agencies formed for the purpose of engaging in a joint venture with a substantial e-learning aspect. The consortium may or may not have specific legal existence but it will normally have a Partnership Agreement regulating the joint venture aspects of the members' activities.

Note that the consortium may no longer be in existence, such as Swiss Virtual Campus.
