The Atlantic Ocean is the second-largest of the world's oceanic divisions; with a total area of about 106 million square kilometres (41 million square miles). It covers approximately 20% of the World's surface.

The Atlantic Ocean occupies an area between the Americas to the west, and Europe and Africa to the east. We take it to extend to the North Pole and to Antarctica.

It is connected to the Pacific Ocean in the southwest and the Indian Ocean in the southeast.

There are a number of countries contained wholly or partly in the Atlantic Ocean including:

as well as many smaller countries.
